To Be Heard Review
To Be Heard is a documentary film about three teenagers from the Bronx who get involved in a poetry program. The film follows them in their personal lives and also in the poetry writing they do in the class. Their personal lives were all very tough, they we all from the hood and had issues with violence, family, and staying in school. We see the poetry help them talk about their issues in their lives and express it through writing and performance.
This film was very inspiring to me because I can relate to some of the situations they were going through. It opened my vision towards poetry even though I'm not much of a poet. There are probably many people that have changed there life style because of this film. I enjoy seeing peoples lives and seeing how they try to make it day by day trying to become someone in life. I now believe in the power of writing and I believe that writing is another way of getting your voice heard even if your from the hood or from the richest neighborhood. This film didn't change the way I am but I see the positive message it is giving to other teens.
